Shinrin yoku, or Forest Bathing in Japanese, was developed in the 1980s and involves experiencing the forest with all your senses. Research shows that forest bathing helps the body to reduce stress, improve the immune system, lower blood pressure and increase the sense of well-being. For forest bathing, we recommend you go to the far end of Strömsholmen, an incredibly beautiful and quiet place for total relaxation in the forest and land.
In a busy world, many people turn to nature for relaxation. Forest bathing is one way. Leave your phone in your room and go for a relaxing forest bath in beautiful surroundings. Feel free to bring a blanket or a seat.
Lie down in the moss and look up at the swaying tree tops. Close your eyes and go through one mind at a time. Listen to the birds, the wind, the movement of the trees, the rustling of the leaves. Look at colors, the way sunlight refracts through the foliage, or natural patterns in nature. Feel what smells. Taste the resin acid, the wild garlic or the air. Feel the tree trunks or dip your toes in the water.
Be in the moment with your hearing, taste, smell and touch. Sit on a stump. Hug a tree. Give yourself time to just be. Breathe. Feel nature with all your senses.
Spending time in nature has been shown to reduce stress and increase our level of relaxation. Some of the effects that have been demonstrated are that we become more relaxed, achieve better and longer sleep, blood pressure is regulated, heart and blood vessels are promoted, our concentration and memory are improved and we have more energy. Nature also helps with anxiety and depression.
At the far end of Strömsholmen you will find our forest pool in the Stockholm archipelago surrounded by beautiful coniferous forest that smells fresh all year round. You can swim in the forest by yourself or together with others.
