We're building an even better Marholmen!

At the beginning of May, the start of a planned remodeling and extension of our main building here on Marholmen. The reason we are doing this is partly because our existing kitchen is simply worn out and not dimensioned to take care of as many guests as we receive every year here on the island. Secondly, our ventilation system needs to be replaced with a more modern and sustainable version. And while we're at it, we're taking the opportunity to do a whole bunch of other things that will further enhance the experience for you as our guest.

Construction will take place in two phases:

Phase 1 is now complete, and Hermans Restaurant has moved into the main building and is open every day.

Our new lobby area is expected to be completed in June 2026, and our new spa in July.

What are we going to do?

  • The Main Entrance. We're moving the main entrance to the middle of what is currently the terrace, to create a more welcoming feel and first impression for you when you visit Marholmen.
  • Reception & Lobby. We’re converting what is currently a courtyard into a brand-new reception area directly adjacent to the hotel rooms, featuring a spacious lobby lounge, cozy seating areas, a lobby bar, and a large fireplace. From here, we’re also creating a new entrance to Marholmen —no more shuffling down long hallways in a bathrobe :)
  • Marholmen . The entire spa is being renovated and updated with new features to create an optimal spa experience. The spa is expected to reopen in the summer of 2026.
  • The Kitchen (complete). The entire kitchen has been renovated to state-of-the-art standards, tailored to the needs of our staff so that we can create culinary experiences across the island in an efficient and sustainable manner.
  • Restaurant & Bar (completed). The space has been renovated and expanded to create a better guest experience and atmosphere for both individual guests and larger groups. The new restaurant opened in January 2026.
  • Building Systems. Ventilation and other building systems are being replaced for better and more sustainable property operation.

Construction is taking place in phases

  • The first phase is now complete, and our new restaurant, Hermans, has moved into the main building
  • Our new lobby area is expected to be completed in June 2026, and our new spa in July.

How will this affect you as a guest?

Our ambition and hope is that you won't notice it at all, or that it will even be better than it is today! The construction will, as much as possible, take place behind the scenes, and we're doing everything we can to ensure that you, as our guest during this period, won't be disturbed by the ongoing work.

  • Food & Drink. Hermans Restaurant has moved into the main building and is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hermans Bar serves drinks and a bar menu featuring light meals.
  • Accommodation. If you've booked a cabin, one of the villas, a pitch, or are staying in a glamping tent or in Villa Berg, you won't be affected by the renovation at all.
  • Hotel rooms. Those staying in the hotel rooms in the main building will also not be disturbed as the work is adapted to not disturb resident guests, i.e. no loud noises during early mornings, late evenings or weekends.
  • Marholmen . While Marholmen is closed for renovations, the unparalleled natural bathing experience at 7° Bath Bastu is taking over. You can also book select spa treatments here.

The New Marholmen Takes Shape

Marholmen's new spa is now taking shape, with a planned opening in mid-July.

During the renovation, we are building on Marholmen’s interior design philosophy, which is rooted in the four elements of nature. Earth, fire, air, and water are also incorporated into the spa, creating a holistic experience of depth, warmth, flow, and tranquility.

In addition to renovating to improve the flow for our spa guests, the biggest news is that we are building a new infinity pool overlooking the water on what is currently the spa terrace.

The steam room, dry sauna, light therapy room, treatment rooms, and small hot tub will remain, and will be complemented by new spa experiences such as foot baths and infrared chairs.

Bookings will open in the spring of 2026 – stay tuned!

A word from CEO Fredrik Utheim

Developing Marholmen into our vision – to become Sweden's best archipelago destination – all year round, is both an incredibly fun and incredibly challenging task for all of us who work here at Marholmen. We've set a very ambitious plan stretching to 2027 for how we'll get there, and now it's time to take the biggest and most challenging step – rebuilding and expanding the main building.

Now it's up to us to make sure that you, as our guest, are disturbed as little as possible (and ideally not at all) during the construction period, and I and all the staff here at Marholmen will do everything to make that happen. And I can already promise you, it will be worth it! Once we're through this period, Marholmen will offer an even better guest experience than ever before, while you, as a returning visitor, will still recognize 'your Marholmen'.

Please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions or feedback you'd like to share along the way.

Best regards,

Fredrik Utheim, CEO
