We've built an even better Marholmen!
In early May, we kicked off a planned renovation and expansion of our main building here on Marholmen. The main reason we decided to do this was, first, that our existing kitchen was simply worn out and not designed to handle the large number of guests we welcome here on the island every year. Additionally, our ventilation system needed to be replaced with a more modern and sustainable version. And while we were at it, we took the opportunity to make a whole host of other improvements to further enhance the experience for you as our guest.
Construction took place in two phases:
Stage 1 – Done. Restaurant Hermans is open every day ✅
Phase 2 – Complete. Our new lobby area is now ready ✅
Phase 3 – Complete. The new Marholmen opened on July 31 ✅
What have we done?
- Main Entrance (complete). We’ve moved the main entrance to the center of what is currently the terrace to create a more welcoming atmosphere and a better first impression for visitors to Marholmen. ✅
- Reception & Lobby (complete). We’ve enclosed what is currently a courtyard and created an entirely new reception area directly adjacent to the hotel rooms, featuring a larger lobby lounge, cozy seating areas, a lobby bar, and a large fireplace. From here, we’re also creating a new entrance to Marholmen —no more shuffling down long hallways in a bathrobe :) ✅
- The Kitchen (complete). The entire kitchen has been renovated to a state-of-the-art standard tailored to the needs of our employees, so that we can create culinary experiences across the entire island in an efficient and sustainable way. ✅
- Restaurant & Bar (completed). It has been renovated and expanded to create a better guest experience and atmosphere for both individual guests and larger groups. The new restaurant opened in January 2026.✅
- Building Services Engineering (completed). Ventilation and other building services systems are being replaced to ensure better and more sustainable building operations.✅
- Marholmen (completed). The entire spa has been renovated and updated with new features to create an optimal spa experience. The spa opened on July 31, 2026.✅
Construction took place in phases
- The first one was completed in January, when our new restaurant, Hermans, moved into the main building.
- The second phase—our new lobby area—was completed in June.
- The new Marholmen opened on July 31.
New Marholmen
Marholmen's new spa has now opened.
During the renovation, we built upon Marholmen’s interior design philosophy, which is based on the four elements of nature. Earth, fire, air, and water are also incorporated into the spa, creating a holistic experience of weight, warmth, flow, and stillness.
In addition to renovating to improve the flow for our spa guests, the biggest news is that we are building a new infinity pool overlooking the water on what is currently the spa terrace.
The steam room, dry sauna, light therapy room, treatment rooms, and small hot tub will remain, and will be complemented by new spa experiences such as foot baths and infrared chairs.

We’ve set a very ambitious plan extending through 2027 for how we’ll get there, and now we’ve completed the biggest and most challenging step—renovating and expanding the main building.
