Read more or book hereSjöstugan was already on the map in 1879. The smell of freshly baked loaves and buns used to come from here. In the oven that still exists, bread was baked for the guests of Marholmen. During the first half of the 20th century, the LO part of the island was home to the Holiday Home for Working Families, the Holiday Home for Women and the Vilo Home for "less well-off working wives and working women".
In 1917, the managers of the Vilo Home summed up the previous summer:
"Most guests have gained weight and regained health and strength." The loaves and buns had done their job.
The guests of the Vilo home lived two to a room. The rooms were equipped with two beds, four blankets, two bedspreads, three chairs, a tray with two glasses and a decanter, a washbasin with tableware, a toilet bucket, a chest of drawers, a soapstone fireplace, a mirror, four tablecloths, two white picket fences, a vase, a ceiling light, a floor cloth and a duster.
In the main hall there were books, board games, an organ and a hammock. At the front door, a wall mirror and a clothes brush. So you could make yourself look nice before going out.
