More information about Sjöstugan

Welcome to check in to Sjöstugan - a charming turn-of-the-century villa right on the water. The cottage is equally suitable for families, couples, colleagues and groups of friends. Here you live idyllically with your own jetty and terrace facing the canal. From the cottage it is only a few minutes walk to the hotel with spa, restaurant and gym.

Sjöstugan consists of two floors with four single beds divided into two bedrooms. There is a dining area with a terrace facing the canal and a small living room with TV. The cottage has a shared toilet and shower.

From the charming Sjöstugan you are close to everything Marholmen has to offer. Piers, activities, playground, light trails, outdoor gym are only a short walk away.

The villa is equally suitable for families, groups of friends or colleagues. You can get here from both the road and the sea and enjoy a coffee on your own jetty.

It was Sjöstugan that once spread the smell of buns and bread across Marholmen. Sjöstugan was Marholmen's baker's cottage and has retained both the wood stove and oven in the otherwise modern kitchen.

The lake house was renovated to a high standard and charm in spring 2024.

The history of the lake house

Sjöstugan was already on the map in 1879. The smell of freshly baked loaves and buns used to come from here. In the oven that still exists, bread was baked for the guests of Marholmen. During the first half of the 20th century, the LO part of the island was home to the Holiday Home for Working Families, the Holiday Home for Women and the Vilo Home for "less well-off working wives and working women".

In 1917, the managers of the Vilo Home summed up the previous summer:

"Most guests have gained weight and regained health and strength." The loaves and buns had done their job.

The guests of the Vilo home lived two to a room. The rooms were equipped with two beds, four blankets, two bedspreads, three chairs, a tray with two glasses and a decanter, a washbasin with tableware, a toilet bucket, a chest of drawers, a soapstone fireplace, a mirror, four tablecloths, two white picket fences, a vase, a ceiling light, a floor cloth and a duster.

In the main hall there were books, board games, an organ and a hammock. At the front door, a wall mirror and a clothes brush. So you could make yourself look nice before going out.
