Summer Restaurant Grosshandlargården
From June 18 to August 16, the restaurant is open all day—from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.—for coffee and pastries, coffee, ice cream, snacks, and summery dishes like pinsa or hamburgers.
After Beach every Thursday in July.
Every Thursday in July, there will be live music in the town square starting at 4:30 p.m.
Drop-in only; advance reservations are not accepted. In case of bad weather, we'll move indoors.

Come to the summer restaurant just as you are—in a swimsuit with a towel, a Hawaiian shirt, or a suit. Orders are placed at the bar, and you can’t reserve a table in advance here. If you want to be sure to get a table, you can make a reservation at Hermans in the main building.
When Sommarkorgen closes at 8:00 p.m., we invite you to visit Hermans Bar in the main building.
If you come to us by boat, please note that we only have a few boat berths, and it's first come, first served. If you moor overnight, payment is made with Swish.
Dine in or take away?
Of course, we'd love for you to hang out with us here in the square, but if you'd rather take your food back to your cabin or villa as takeaway, we can definitely make that happen!
A restaurant nestled in the heart of history
The summer restaurant is located in the historic Grosshandlargården, which was completed in 1924. The ceiling and walls are adorned with sketches by none other than Elsa Beskow.
Sometime in 1923, Marholmen’s founder, Nils Berg, happened to meet the principal of Birkagården Folk High School, Natanael Beskow, at a dinner party. The two gentlemen had so much to talk about that they forgot all about their dinner companions. Natanael’s wife was a certain Elsa Beskow, the famous artist and storyteller.
As a result of this meeting, in 1924 Nils Berg donated part of Marholmen a foundation called Marholmens Folkbildningshem. Here, the Birkagården Folk High School would hold summer courses for female students, primarily young women who worked in industry.
Berg had a school building (now Grosshandlargården) and a student dormitory in the 1920s national style (now Strandpaviljongen) constructed, and in 1926, the Marholmen Adult Education Center was inaugurated. The first summer course began with 21 girls, 18 of whom were factory workers, two were maids, and one was an assistant housekeeper.
