The role
As Head of Food & Beverage Experiences at Marholmen, you have overall responsibility for the development and operation of Marholmen's total dining offer and various restaurant concepts. The role also includes identifying and developing all the opportunities that the island offers and thinking outside the box to give our guests unforgettable food and drink experiences here at Marholmen. Together with your team, you will exceed our guests' expectations and create loyal ambassadors every day.

You will report to the CEO and be part of the management of the business. You are responsible for representing the leadership of the business within your area of responsibility by managing, leading and developing your employees and contractors towards the short and long-term goals of the business from the perspectives of employees, guests, sustainability, revenue and profitability. A particularly close collaboration with the CEO and other colleagues in the management team is crucial for the total market potential to be realized through joint revenue, positioning and product development work with a focus on profitable revenue.

The overall tasks of the Head of Food & Beverage Experiences are:
- Create memorable meal experiences and develop new concepts for both private guests and conference groups, which not only contribute to our guests choosing us, but also happily coming back.
- Product develop the food and beverage offering throughout the island, optimize all saleable areas and develop new food concepts based on current trends together with other departments and partners.
- Optimize revenue opportunities, additional sales and ensure profitability at all levels.
- Ensure that your employees develop, thrive and that staffing follows the level of activity in the business.
- Together with the rest of the management team, create and work based on Marholmen's current business plan, vision and set goals.

Your skills and experience:
- Relevant university education or equivalent
- You have documented experience of restaurant operations in hotels with multiple target groups, offers, concepts and seasons. Competence in and genuine interest in food and drink is a matter of course.
- You are an experienced requirement setter and purchaser of services from close partners.
- In addition to Visbook POS, we work with various tools and support systems. Experience and knowledge of corresponding systems is an advantage and very good knowledge of the Office package is a matter of course
- It is an advantage if you have experience of quality and environmental management systems such as ISO, Swan, or equivalent.
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English. Additional languages are a bonus.

Time to pick your own flowers in Beda's Flower Meadow

The flowers are blooming beautifully in Beda's Flower Meadow, and it's time for the premiere of the fall pick-your-own!

During the fall, the self-pick will be open at the following times:

August 22, 15-19
August 29, 15-19
September 1, 9-12
September 8, 11-14
September 12, 15-19
September 15, 11-14

Payment is made on site via swish. The minimum charge is SEK 150 and you pay based on the circumference of the bouquet you pick (there is a board with holes on it and you pay the price for the hole that the bouquet comes through).

Buckets and secateurs are available, but it is a good idea to bring a bucket or similar to carry the bouquet home.

Sara Lewell, who runs Kärodlat and is responsible for the floriculture, will be on hand at all times to answer questions.

Marholmen is now taking another step towards putting the island in Roslagen on the map. "Together we are developing Marholmen into Sweden's most obvious year-round destination," says Alexandra Wastesson, who has taken over as the new hotel manager.

Marholmen is located in the Roslagen archipelago, just outside Norrtälje and offers a wide range of accommodation and activities all year round. On the 34-hectare island there is a hotel, Skärgårdshus, historic villas, glamping, conference, spa, restaurant, pitches, party rooms, hot tubs and much more.

"I am incredibly happy to have been entrusted with the task and I am burning with desire to drive the development of Marholmen forward together with all my colleagues," says Alexandra Wastesson, hotel manager at Marholmen.

Even as a child at home in Uppsala, Alexandra dreamed of working in the hospitality industry and trained in the Hotel & Tourism program at Ekebyskolan in Uppsala. Since then, Alexandra has acquired a solid professional background from a number of different roles, most recently as an operations controller at Stockholm Meeting Selection.

"I didn't hesitate for a second when I was offered the chance to be an important cog in Marholmen's continued development journey. I am a person who wants to be where the action is, drive development forward and create profitability. Now I am in exactly the right place to do just that," concludes Alexandra.

Throughout history, people have come to Marholmen for relaxation and recreation. In 1913, Nils and Hanna Berg donated part of Marholmen to the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) to give working wives and workers the opportunity to rest. Today, Marholmen is owned and developed by the Swedish Municipal Workers' Union.

Bedas flower bed - beautiful, sustainable and environmentally friendly

In the spring, Marholmen establishes its own flower gardens. This makes them self-sufficient in cut flowers for year-round decoration and allows them to offer activities such as flower binding and self-picking. The initiative is also really good for the environment; it increases biodiversity and Marholmen can stop buying imported cut flowers.

At the moment, Marholmen's local flower supplier Kärodlat is establishing the "Beda's flower meadow" on the island, as part of Marholmen's ongoing sustainability efforts. The new flower meadow means that Marholmen will be self-sufficient in cut flowers all year round and can completely stop buying imported flowers. The cultivation is of course without pesticides and artificial fertilizers.

The new initiative also means that Marholmen can offer activities based on the cultivation, such as courses in arranging flowers in vases and flower binding, as well as self-picking.

- Through our local cultivation, we can completely opt out of the global flower industry's use of chemicals, high water consumption and long transports. We can decorate the entire facility all year round with beautiful flowers that grow naturally here on Marholmen, while increasing biodiversity here on the island," says Marholmen's CEO Fredrik Utheim.

Flower decoration that follows the cycle of the year

When Sara creates Marholmen's flower decorations, she works with fresh flowers from the gardens from June to October, and the rest of the year with dried flowers, year-round greenery and things that can be found in nature.

- There are so many beautiful flowers that can be grown locally here in Sweden, and I don't see the point of importing. The season starts with tulips, daffodils and wild raspberry, wild honeysuckle, moonbeam, hazel and early perennials, and then it rolls on with ranunculus and anemones, the anuals such as larkspur, snapdragon, zinnia, summer mallow, asters, pansies, amaranths, rose hips and eternelles, etc. In early August, the garden's prima donna, the dahlia, arrives. Something we all look forward to!" says Sara Lewell, Kärodlat Roslagen.
