We are building an even better Marholmen!
At the beginning of May, the start of a planned remodeling and extension of our main building here on Marholmen. The reason we are doing this is partly because our existing kitchen is simply worn out and not dimensioned to take care of as many guests as we receive every year here on the island. Secondly, our ventilation system needs to be replaced with a more modern and sustainable version. And while we're at it, we're taking the opportunity to do a whole bunch of other things that will further enhance the experience for you as our guest.
The construction will take place in stages. The restaurant will move back into the main building in January 2026, while the spa and lobby are expected to be completed in June 2026.

What are we going to do?
- The main entrance. We are moving the main entrance to the middle of what is today the terrace for a more welcoming feeling and first impression for those who visit Marholmen.
- Reception & lobby. We build in what is currently a courtyard and create a new reception area with larger lobby areas with cozy seating areas and a large fireplace directly adjacent to the hotel rooms. From here we also create a new entrance to Mareld Spa - no more pawing in bathrobe in long corridors :)
- The kitchen. The entire kitchen is being rebuilt to a state-of-the-art standard that is tailored to the needs of our employees so that we can efficiently and sustainably create dining experiences across the island.
- Restaurant & Bar. Being remodeled to create a better guest experience and feel for both individual guests and larger parties. The new restaurant will open in January 2026.
- Mareld Spa. The entire spa will be renovated from June 2 and updated with new content to create an optimal spa experience. The spa is expected to reopen in early summer 2026.
- Building services engineering. Ventilation and other building technologies are being replaced for better and more sustainable building operation.
The construction will take place in stages. The restaurant will move back into the main building in January 2026, while the spa and lobby are expected to be completed in June 2026.
How will this affect you as a guest?
Not at all or even better than today, is our ambition and hope! The construction will, as far as possible, take place behind the scenes and we will do everything to ensure that you as a guest with us during the period will not be disturbed at all by the ongoing construction work.
- Food & drink. All food & beverages for both residents and visitors will be served at the beautiful, historic Grosshandlartorget during the period May 5 - December 21, 2025. An experience in itself!
- Accommodation. If you have booked a cabin, one of the villas, a pitch, or are staying in a glamping tent or in Villa Berg, you will not be affected by the rebuilding at all.
- Hotel rooms. Those staying in the hotel rooms in the main building will also not be disturbed as the work is adapted to not disturb resident guests, i.e. no loud noises during early mornings, late evenings or weekends.
- Mareld Spa. When the Mareld Spa closes on June 1, the incomparable natural bath experience 7° Bath & Sauna will take over. Here too, you will be able to book for selected spa treatments.
- Conference. We will receive conference groups of up to 70 people for meetings, conferences and kick-offs as usual during the construction period and also offer alternative solutions ex Festival Conference for groups up to 150 people.

In the meantime, we are open as (un)usual!
During the construction period, our restaurant & bar will open on Grosshandlartorget (the area around Grosshandlargården and Strandpaviljongen), which will give the dining experience a new and extra dimension in the historic buildings.
From May 5 to December 21, 2025, our restaurant will move to Grosshandlartorget and serve the following:
- Breakfast buffet. Served here during our regular opening hours >>
- Lunch of the day. Served daily from 11.30-14
- Bistro menu. Served daily from 14-17
- Evening menu. Served from 17-21.30
- Wholesale Dinner. Replaces the Marholm dinner during the period and is served for those who have booked a hotel or conference package that includes dinner daily from 17-21.30.
Dogs in the restaurant during construction
We love dogs but now that the cold of fall is here and we are moving indoors, we can unfortunately not accept them in our restaurant out of consideration for our allergy sufferers. If the weather and temperature allow, dogs can join us during the day on our terrace. And for our four-legged friends who want to hang out anyway, regardless of the weather, you can order take away and sit down together in our cozy Lobby. Of course, all four-legged friends are warmly welcome back to our new restaurant in the main building when we open in February!

Today is the day we've been waiting for! It's time for our sous chef Alexander Lundin to compete in the European final of CooperSkillet, an international competition for conference chefs.
After the victory in the Swedish final that took place in Stockholm in March, Alexander represents Sweden in the senior class.
The competition is held at @hogbobrukshotell and we will of course be there to cheer him on!
Keep your fingers crossed! Tonight we know how it goes.

Just over a hundred years ago, working women took their very first holidays here at Marholmen - long before holidays were a matter of course. One of these women was Selma, a widow, factory worker and single mother.
Since then, many, many women, men and children have created their own memories here; on vacation, weddings, dancing, courses and training, or with Marholmen as their workplace.

CEO Fredrik Utheim has the floor
Developing Marholmen into our vision - to become Sweden's best archipelago destination - all year round, is both an incredibly fun and incredibly challenging task for all of us who work here at Marholmen. We have set a very ambitious plan that extends to 2027 for how we will get there, and now the time has come to take the biggest and most challenging step - to rebuild and expand the main building.
Now it's up to us to make sure that you as a guest are disturbed as little as possible (and preferably not at all) during the construction period and I and all the employees here at Marholmen will do everything to make it so. And I can already promise that it will be worth it! When we are through this period, Marholmen will offer a better guest experience than ever before, while you who are a returning visitor to us will recognize "your Marholmen".
