More information about staying in our cabins

Note! If you're staying with us for a conference or corporate event, bed linen, final cleaning, and breakfast are always included in the price.

The kitchens in all our cabins come with pretty much everything you need to whip up a meal, and you'll find at least as many sets of cutlery, glasses, and plates as there are beds in your cabin. Just a heads-up, there aren't any dishwashers in the cabins.

Tips for what to bring to the house you've rented:

  • Basic groceries like salt, pepper, oil, coffee, coffee filters, etc. Our restaurant is just a stone's throw away, and we also offer a takeaway menu for those who don't want to cook themselves.
Tip! Order our popular Dinner box which is prepared by our chefs and that you finish cooking yourself in your house.
  • Paper towels & toilet paper (one toilet roll is provided in the house).
  • Personal toiletries (soap and shampoo are available in the house)
  • Kitchen towels
  • Bath towels for outdoor use
  • Firewood and a lighter/matches if you want to light the fireplace. You can also buy them as an add-on to your booking or from us on site.
  • Lighter fluid, charcoal/wood, and a lighter (if you want to barbecue at one of our designated grilling spots. Also available for purchase on-site)
  • Candle holders and tea lights for cozy evenings – just remember to blow out the candles before you head to bed.
  • Bikes are available if you'd like to take a spin around the island on our car-free paths or head out on a cycling adventure.
  • Other things that can make your stay even better: Good clothes for outdoor activities, suited for the weather, picnic blanket, swimwear, fishing rods (you can also buy them here), football and other sports equipment depending on the season.

If you forget anything, we have a small shop in the hotel where you can buy coffee, coffee filters, tea, etc. A five-minute drive from Marholmen, you'll also find the grocery store Tempo Vreta Handel.

Here's how the sauna works

By far the most common question we get is: how does the sauna work? Here is the answer:

Link to a video showing step by step how to do it >>

There are two knobs on the heater, the left one controls the heat and the right one controls the time.

Temperature setting - min/max – adjust to your desired temperature up or down. Usually, 70-90 degrees is perfect.

Please note! Setting the temperature too high will cause our overheating protection to trip and require staff to reset it.

Time setting

You can set the sauna so it's warm when you get back to your cabin after the day's activities. Here's how:

  • 1-4 (white marked) & 1-8 (black marked). The first numbers 1-4 (white marked) start the sauna immediately, and it will run for the number of hours indicated by the digit.
  • When you set 1-8 (highlighted in black), the timer function starts, and the sauna will begin after the number of hours it's set to (e.g., 3 will start the sauna in 3 hours).
  • The timer automatically switches off at position 0. You can turn it back and forth at any time, for example, to manually switch off the sauna (turn to 0) or to change an already made setting.

Heads up! Remember to pour water on the stones gently and a little at a time, otherwise, the residual current device might trip.

Make sure no towels or other flammable items are near the sauna heater, as this poses a fire risk.

Here's how to light the fireplace

Watch a step-by-step video on how to light the stove >>

  1. Open the damper by moving the control to the right (see picture).
  2. Put a couple of logs in the stove and stack the finely chopped wood crosswise in an airy manner over them
  3. Use kindling and light it in the center of the woodpile.
  4. Close the door. A small amount of soot may form on the glass during the lighting of the fire. This is normal and will disappear after a while.
  5. The damper should be fully open for 3-5 minutes or until the wood is burning properly. After that, the air supply for the damper can be reduced for longer burning time (see picture).
  6. Wood should be added when the fire changes to a bed of embers. Add 2-3 logs. Place the logs diagonally on top of each other so that the fire can easily spread. Then close the door.

Keep in mind:
Always close the damper when the fireplace is not in use.
Never close the damper before the embers have burnt out.

Firewood is available for purchase at the front desk and can also be ordered when you make your reservation.
