Marholmen an island in the Roslagen archipelago, an hour’s drive from Stockholm and Uppsala. People have been coming here to relax, learn, and enjoy themselves for over a century. In 1913, wholesaler Nils Berg and his wife Hanna donated part of Marholmen the Swedish Trade Union Confederation (LO) to provide working-class wives and female workers with a place to rest. Today, the island attracts visitors from near and far to stay, dine, meet, swim, or simply enjoy the beautiful archipelago setting.

Elsa Beskow’s husband, Natanael, was the first director of the adult education center that opened here on Marholmen . Every year, they stood together on the pier to welcome new students.
